When And why did you become a SCORE Counselor?
Five years after retirement, I realized that I could give back a great deal in the way of retail experience, while keeping engaged and involved in problem-solving. I miss the business environment, and hope to be of use in helping budding entrepreneurs.

Business Background:

I spent almost forty years at Macy's in California, in a number of different capacities, including store management, buying, product development, physical inventory, planning and distribution, and automated retail systems. My last position was in Marketing Operations, where I oversaw all paper buying for catalogs, production for over 20,000 newspaper ad each year, and both the Photo Studio and the sample room. One of my positions was as head of Credit, where in addition to overseeing Collections, New Accounts, and Customer Service, I was involved in multiple system installations and conversions. Although I was involved in a number of support functions, my interest always returns to the basics of retail: planning assortments, calculating product opportunities, selling product.

Educational Background:
BA in Economics from Stanford University

Self-Description:
I am an additive traveler, trying to reduce the bucket list, with either active adventurous vacations to Africa, South America or the Arctic, or with cooking schools in Italy, Spain and Morocco. I am an avid reader, serve on the board of a local non-profit, and spend time with family and grandchildren, all of whom are fortunately nearby.
